Training Need Analysis (TNA)

Training Need Analysis (TNA)

A Training Need Analysis (TNA) is a tool to identifies the gap between present employees skills, knowledge and performance and desired goals of the institution or organisation. it is applied to determine if the training is the proper solution to bridge these gaps.

The main elements of Training Needs Analysis include different levels of analysis that help recognising the training requirements comprehensively. At the organizational level, training is aligned with overall company objectives and goals, strategies, and available resources. At the operational or task level, it is focussing on identifying the specific skills and knowledge needed to perform specific jobs effectively and efficiently. Finally, at the individual level, the analysis find out which employees need training and what perticular areas they need to improve for better performance

The various methods to collect data to perform this process includes survey and questionnaires, interview and information from focus groups, analysing performance appraisal, taking observations and conducting skill testing.

Training Needs Analysis begins by specifying the goal, where the aim and scope of the analysis are clearly established to understand what the organization goals to achieve. Next, the current state is analyzed by assessing the existing skill levels, knowledge, and performance of employees. Based on this assessment, gaps are identified by finding out the difference between the current capabilities and the required performance standards.

After recognizing these gaps, proper solutions are explored to decide whether training is the most effective method or if other interventions, such as process changes or tools, are needed. Finally, an action plan is produced by developing a customized training program that focusses on the identified needs and supports overall organizational objectives.

The benefits of conducting a Training Needs Analysis programme include ensuring that training programs are relevant and cost-effective by focusing only on required skills. It helps improve productivity, reliability and overall employee performance, while also increasing job satisfaction and supporting career development aspect. In addition to this, it plays a crucial role in narrowing skill gaps, enabling the organization to remain competitive in a constantly evolving environment and conditions.
